Work permits for employing school-aged children
It’s the school holiday’s, and this is the time when students may start looking for part time work. Part time work can support school-aged children to develop their skills further, earn some money and begin to enhance their employability skills, ready for their life after education. Juvenile employment can also be a huge support to local businesses.
Part-time employment for school-aged children can continue after the holidays, however there are guidelines and rules to follow. This is so that the young person is safe and insured in the workplace, have some leisure time and are not too tired if they are balancing work and school at the same time.
Within the first week of starting work, the young person’s employer must apply for a work permit. The Work Permit is an agreement between the parent and the employer, which is managed by the Council. Your child’s school will also receive a copy of the permit. Cornwall Council has created the following information poster regarding juvenile employment:
