Congratulations on completing your GCSEs, and well done on what you have achieved to date! Throughout your time in secondary school, you will have learnt new topics, developed and enhanced your skills and continued with hobbies and interests – or tried new ones!
You have faced challenges and made decisions to help you into the next stage of your career journey.

You can leave school on the last Friday in June if you will be 16 by the end of the summer holidays.
You must then do one of the following until you are 18:
– stay in full-time education, for example at a college
– start an apprenticeship or traineeship
– spend 20 hours or more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training’
On results day, if you have applied to a college or a 6th Form, they will contact you to discuss your results and your next steps with them. You will have the opportunity to see your school careers adviser and they will be able to assist you with any changes to your plans.
You may have already started or about to start an apprenticeship. If anything has changed, please talk to the people you know and who have known you through school. We are here to help.
If you are worried or concerned about the next step in your journey, talk to the people around you. Cornwall Council and Cornwall NHS have launched a new range of free services called ‘Togetherall’ for anyone aged sixteen and over.
Your next steps
You have options for your next step on this journey, no matter what your results are. Whether that is continuing education through a sixth form, attending a local college, or combining work and study with an apprenticeship or traineeship.

For parents/ carers
Have a look at the college or sixth form websites for the parents’ information regarding bursaries, transport and what to do next. You and your child may have already received emails from them at this stage. There will also be people to hand to support over the phone.
For employers
You may have young people working in your business collecting their results this week. Please give them support, remind them of everything they have achieved and encourage them to seek help from the school, college or sixth form they study at. For many young people it is a big time of change and new experiences.
