Checking your new employees are eligible to work in the UK
From March 2020 to 30th September 2022, temporary adjustments were made to allow employers to conduct document checks remotely via video calls. Those adjustments will end this month and from the 1st October 2022 the below options will need to be followed to ensure your new workers have the eligibility to work in the UK:
– Manual checks of physical documents (passports or birth certificates and proof of address).
– IDVT (Identity Document Validations Technology) checks for British and Irish citizens documents.
– Home Office online right to work service. Checks using this service do not require a check of physical documents and can be carried out by video, as right to work information is provided in real time direct from Home Office systems.
